Chinchero sits at 3,762 m, the highest point of the day; everything after it is lower than Cusco. If the altitude worries you, the Classic leaves Chinchero for the late afternoon, once you have had a full day to adjust.

Which Sacred Valley tour should I book if I take the train to Machu Picchu the same day?

Either tour that ends in Ollantaytambo at 15:30. The Classic costs US$29 and the VIP US$31; both leave you a few minutes from the train station in time for the afternoon departures. Compare the two.

What does VIP mean here?

VIP is the full route with all 5 sites, including Maras and Moray. It uses the same group of up to 17–18 travellers, the same English and Spanish-speaking guide and the same buffet lunch as the Classic. It is not a private or premium service.

Do I still need to buy entrance tickets?

Yes, they are separate from the tour price. Your Tourist Ticket opens Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero if you book the Classic, or Chinchero, Moray, Ollantaytambo and Pisac if you book the VIP. At the salt mines the Maras community sells its own ticket, so VIP travellers pay that one too.

What time does the tour leave Cusco?

Classic pickups start around 07:20 and VIP pickups around 06:20, in central Cusco. You get the exact pickup time for your hotel or Airbnb on WhatsApp the evening before; it can move a few minutes depending on the neighbourhood.

Is lunch included?

Yes. A buffet lunch at Rustica in Urubamba is part of every price. When you book you can upgrade to 14 Inkas (+US$4), Don Ángel (+US$15) or Tunupa (+US$20).

Can I cancel?

Yes. With 30 days' notice or more you get 70% back; under 72 hours, 50%; under 48 hours, 30%; under 24 hours or if you don't show up, there is no refund. Refunds go back through WeTravel to the card you paid with.
